Robert O. Ritchie is the H.T. & Jessie Chua Distinguished Professor of
Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and Senior Faculty Scientist
at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received M.A., Ph.D. and Sc.D.
degrees in Physics/Materials Science from Cambridge University. He is known for
his research into the mechanics and micro-mechanisms of fracture and fatigue of
a broad range of structural and biological materials where he has published over
700 papers, with a Google Scholar h-index of 103. He is a member of National
Academy of Engineering in the U.S., a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) and of
the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng) in the U.K., and is a foreign member
of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of
Engineering Sciences.
